Day #30: ONE ART: a journal of poetry
Celebrating National Poetry Month by highlighting 30 days of literary publishers who produce poetry you can listen to, watch, or read, in 5 minutes or less.

Today marks the end of National Poetry Month.
Throughout April I’ve handpicked literary journals and individual poems for you. Thank you so much for reaching out and letting me know when you especially appreciated one of the poetry picks. Whenever possible, I passed along your love to the literary journal and/or the poet.
With a drumroll, here’s the last journal for this project, and poem #30.
Today’s literary journal selection is ONE ART: a journal of poetry.

ONE ART is simple in all the good ways: Clean layout. An endless scroll of poems. A collection of some of today’s best writers. And a mission with a heart.
From the “About” page:
ONE ART is a home for good poems. We aim to publish poetry that adds value to the life of our readers. We hope to offer, sustain, and nourish a kind, inviting, and thoughtful community.
We remain pleased and humbled to have been listed as one of the best poetry magazines by Book Riot.
For inspiration, for hope, and for the purpose of introducing you to one of my favorite poets, in case you don’t already know her, I’ve selected “Poem to the Future” by Kelli Russell Agodon.
It starts like this:
“Poem to the Future”
Future, if you stop by, I promise to open the door.
I know sometimes you arrive in combat boots,
laces braided with bombs and drones, even the way
you cuff your jeans feels like a subtle threat. Future,
if you come inside, I’ll offer you jasmine tea, but know
I have champagne chilling in the fridge as I keep hoping
we’ll get to celebrate you.FROM “POEM TO THE FUTURE” BY KELLI RUSSELL AGODON
Please read “Poem to the Future” in its entirety by visiting ONE ART: a journal of poetry.
And when you finish your poem of the day, believe in spring. Believe in hope.
Acknowledge that there do exist many humans and institutions that share likeminded missions: “We hope to offer, sustain, and nourish a kind, inviting, and thoughtful community.”
Believe in our future. Our children walking boldly toward it have no other choice.
